With almost two decades of experience in London, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, Christopher Carlin established Carlin Projects, a boutique consultancy specializing in project management and development for the luxury sector in residential, retail and hospitality, to provide a uniquely hands-on, experienced and effective offering to private developers, investors and end-users not found in the marketplace on such a personalized level.
After beginning his career in London and New York with Gardiner & Theobald, a global construction and property firm, Christopher was among the founding members of their U.S. West Coast expansion, and was instrumental in establishing a significant presence for the firm in multiple sectors within the Los Angeles and San Francisco marketplaces.
Initially joining Gardiner & Theobald in their Global Headquarters in London as a Graduate Surveyor, Christopher became part of their Cultural/Historic Projects Group and had immediate immersion into some of the most prominent projects in London – “The Millennium Projects” including the Royal Opera HouseMaster Plan, Tate Modern, Glyndebourne Opera House, and Roundhouse Theatre. Following this experience, he joined the Gardiner & Theobald New York office as Associate and was promoted to a Director of the firm after such iconic projects including headquarters for The New York Times, Goldman Sachs, Clifford Chance, O’Melveny & Myers LLP and various Flagship Store projects for LVMH and Gucci brands (Bottega Veneta, YSL, Sergio Rossi, Boucheron, among others).
After six years in New York, Christopher relocated to Los Angeles to set up Gardiner & Theobald’s West Coast Headquarters. His first project was to be part of the team on the proposed Candy & Candy Development – the 1.2m sf Richard Meier-designed 9900 Wilshire Project – which was successfully led through the City of Beverly Hills Entitlements & Department of Building & Safety to full approvals. Christopher went on to secure other iconic projects including the Hotel Bel-Air Master Plan Renovation, opening up a luxury market clientele for the firm that included high-end residential and hospitality projects. Christopher also oversaw the opening of a San Francisco office to focus on technology and hospitality in the region.
In 2014, with almost 200 projects brought to completion, Christopher launched Carlin Projects based on his desire to continue to provide ultra-personalized and highly targeted services to clients within the luxury sector.
From Ireland and educated in the United Kingdom, Christopher holds an Honors Degree in Building Economics (Quantity Surveying) (BSc Hons) and is also a professional Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
